CSIRO (http://www.csiro.au/) is acting as the host organisation for the Atlas of Living Australia and employs a small team of ALA staff based at CSIRO Entomology in Canberra.
Contribution to the ALA
CSIRO is contributing data from its collections:
- Australian National Herbarium (ANH)
- Australian National Insect Collection (ANIC)
- Australian National Fish Collection (ANFC)
- Australian National Wildlife Collection (ANWC)
During 2007-2008 the CSIRO collections will be developing a range of content for the Atlas, including:
- Species information on fishes as part of the Fishes of Australia Online project
- Images of a large number of Australian fish species
- Images of Australian insect species, including representative images for each Australian insect family
- Molecular sequences and specimen data for Australian termites
- Molecular sequences and specimen data for a range of vertebrate species
- Images and identification tools for Australian reptiles and amphibians
- Species information, images and specimen data for Australian mangrove plant species
- Nomenclatural data for Australian plant species as part of the Australian Plant Names Index
- Information on the state distributions for Australian plant species
- Images of Australian plants and of original descriptions of Australian plants
- Nomenclatural data on Australian hornworts and liverworts
