Welcome to the September 2025 edition of our Atlas of Living Australia (ALA) newsletter.

We are pleased to announce the release of our new Five-Year Strategy (2025–2030), which sets a clear direction for the Atlas of Living Australia’s priorities and development over the coming years.

As Australia’s national biodiversity data infrastructure, our vision is to deliver trusted biodiversity data services to support world-class science and decision-making. The strategy responds to a suite of new drivers, including the growth in novel biodiversity monitoring technologies, opportunities around the management of sensitive data, increased cybersecurity risk, and improving how we incorporate the richness of Indigenous biodiversity knowledge into the ALA.

In parallel, the strategy affirms the ongoing commitment to partner with and deliver benefits to new sectors, including industry and biosecurity, to complement our existing partnerships with our biological collections, government, citizen science and ecosystem science partners. We are also excited to grow our partnerships with other NCRIS capabilities to realise greater national benefit.

Our team are particularly proud of the guiding principles articulated on Page 8 of the strategy that will shape how we operate, akin to environmental, social and governance commitments that form a key part of corporate governance in 2025.

We are grateful to our team, advisory board and stakeholders who have helped shape our strategy and look forward to working with you to deliver on our vision of delivering trusted biodiversity data services for Australia.
