A major rewrite and update of the ALA's Spatial Portal mapping and analysis tool is complete and now live.

The Spatial Portal – ALA’s mapping and analysis tool – continually evolves to meet user needs but its code base was making it inefficient to update and fit with other ALA products. So, over the last 18 months, we’ve been busy re-writing code to make the Spatial Portal more efficient.  While most of the changes are not visible, they make it much easier for us to implement minor changes and incorporate new features.

Some of the more noticeable changes include:

  • Login with an account is now mandatory. This enables restoring sessions and future workflow logging.
  • The Wizards are now on a single scrollable page.
  • Defunct Google Panoramio has been replaced with Flikr for displaying user images of locations on maps.
  • Export | Points now includes trait data from any species list (Add to map | Species | Use species list: http://lists.ala.org.au) that contains species-level trait data. This is, in effect, species traits intersected with corresponding occurrence records.

Please see the Release notes for further details.

If you have any questions, comments or suggestions, please let us know by sending an email to support@ala.org.au.

Thank you for using the Spatial Portal. We hope it continues to be a valuable tool for your research.
